John “$K” McGee is a multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated producer, multi-instrumentalist and music entrepreneur. Among the ranks of top composers defining modern hip hop and R&B, $K has produced records for a wide range of chart-topping artists, including Future, Chris Brown, Saweetie, Kodak Black, Vory, Tyga, Wale, Lil Baby, Trey Songz and many more. $K’s musical journey began at age 5, teaching himself how to play on his grandmother’s piano and later playing at his home church growing up. He studied audio engineering at The Art Institute in Atlanta in 2007 and later that year, fatefully connected with mega-producer Troy Taylor, who would become his mentor. The pair worked on Trey Songz’ critically-acclaimed debut mixtape "Anticipation 1" and $K continued on to produce several records for Trey Songz over the years, culminating in a Grammy nomination for “Ready” in 2010. In the years since, $K has added dozens of major-label album, film, TV and video game music placements to his repertoire and, in 2019, founded Family First Records to service a roster of signed artists and producers. In 2021, he partnered with Kobalt Music on an admin deal to expand his sync and placement catalog. $K also owns a thriving beat and sound kit store and is planning to release a slate of instrumental albums and mixtapes early next year, staying true to his signature sound of timeless melodies as an ode to classic R&B. With a growing audience on social media, $K believes in motivating his online community with positivity, encouragement and practical knowledge. He attributes his success to a strong foundation in faith, a commitment to continuous improvement, and an entrepreneurial can-do spirit.
